Deadliest Catch-style series following drivers on a fragile ice road

The 350-mile road from Yellowknife to the lucrative diamond mines in Canada’s frozen north takes 30 days to construct, and lasts almost twice as long before the ice cracks and the land becomes impassable. This real-life ‘jobumentary’, which is essentially Deadliest Catch on ice, meets the drivers who risk it all to ‘dash for the cash’.
Its epic setting and over-the-top narration are a big part of its appeal, while the drivers are mostly a grizzled, cheery bunch of guys described as ‘titans of the ice’. Some of these men have nicknames – like Hugh ‘The Polar Bear’ Rowland and Jack ‘King of the Haul Road’ Jessee – but they’re not all guys.
Step forward Lisa Kelly, a former freestyle motocross champion who becomes a regular driver from series three, and even sets up her own trucking company with fellow driver Darrell Ward. Ward sadly died in a plane crash in 2016, while the tenth series was airing. (12 series)
