Hulu’s The Testaments has added a few names to its upcoming second season. Deborah Ann Woll (Daredevil: Born Again) has joined the series alongside Luke Kirby (The Marvelous Ms. Maisel) and Haley Wong.
The Testaments is a sequel to The Handmaid’s Tale, focusing on the daughters of Gilead as they come of age in the patriarchal society’s tyranny and discover who they really are. The series features Chase Infiniti, Lucy Halliday, Mabel Li, Amy Seimetz, Brad Alexander, Rowan Blanchard, Mattea Conforti, Zarrin Darnell-Martin, Eva Foote, Isolde Ardies and Kira Guloien.
Woll will play Sylvia, a seamstress whose work keeps her in close proximity to the Wives and daughters of Gilead’s Commanders. Kirby is literal-minded Commander Fletcher, who lives as a recluse on a farm in one of Gilead’s Colonies, where his eccentricities have made it difficult to find a wife. Wong meanwhile will portray Prudence, a dutiful and pregnant wife who will carve out a space for joy, even if doing so risks everything.
Meanwhile, Charlie Carrick has been upped to a series regular role for the second season as Commander Judd, one of Aunt Lydia’s superiors who created the role of Aunts with her. Judd’s ambitions to gain power in Gilead and beyond will play a bigger role in the coming story.
Based on Margaret Atwood’s novel, The Testaments is a dramatic coming-of-age story set in Gilead that follows young teens Agnes, dutiful and pious, and Daisy, a new arrival and convert from beyond Gilead’s borders. As they navigate the gilded halls of Aunt Lydia’s elite preparatory school for future wives, a place where obedience is instilled brutally and always with divine justification, their bond becomes the catalyst that will upend their past, their present, and their future.
The series was created by Bruno Miller, who executive produces alongside Warren Littlefield and Handmaid’s star Elisabeth Moss.
