As production continues on the highly anticipated The Batman Part II, Robert Pattinson has teased the tone of the sequel and how much it may differ from the first film in Matt Reeves’ Batman saga.
The sequel has long been in development and has been the victim of several production and release delays, but the excitement and interest around it has not lessened. In an interview with Collider about his latest film Primetime, which releases today (read our review here), the conversation turned to The Batman Part II and Pattinson revealed fans will be surprised at the “left turn” the film will take compared to the first film.
“It’s so ambitious,” he said. “I mean, I sort of said the other day on something that the first one was a different take on a Batman movie, and this one is another… It’s a real left turn from the first one, but somehow it keeps elements of the kind of feel of it. But it just feels really ambitious, and I’m excited to see how it turns out.”
He also spoke about Reeves’ approach to directing the sequel and the amount of preparation Reeves has put into the project. “When you see it, the script is incredibly dense, and it’s like he’s just one of those directors who it’s really obvious that he has the entire thing in his head already, and so it’s unusual to be working with someone when you keep forgetting with little elements. There’s so much in it that it’s almost impossible to encompass the whole thing, but when you keep finding out, you’re like, ‘Oh, no, you know exactly what you want to do with this.’ There’s just something so cool about it.”
Pattinson returns as Batman/Bruce Wayne alongside Jeffrey Wright as Gordon, Andy Serkis as Alfred and Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb/The Penguin. The new cast includes Scarlett Johannson, Sebastian Stan, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, Sebastian Koch and Brian Tyree Henry.

Pattinson has had a very busy and successful year in film after starring in The Drama with Zendaya, Christopher Nolan’s record-breaking blockbuster The Odyssey and the already meme-generating Primetime due to his performance as Chris Hansen and his delivery of his famous catchphrase. At the end of this year he will also be seen on Arrakis in Dune: Part Three.
The Batman Part II will be released on February 18th, 2028.
