Satoru Gojo holds the prestigious honor of being the strongest sorcerer in the modern world of Jujutsu Kaisen. Born with the Six Eyes and Limitless, he forges himself into a powerhouse beyond imagination, with his mere existence ushering in an era of peace. Beyond raw strength, Gojo is also a genius, not just in combat, but as a political figure and a mentor.
However, anime contains so many characters that Gojo pales in comparison to when it comes to intelligence. Capable of processing information at supreme levels, these individuals have mastered disciplines, weaponized knowledge, solved critical problems through deductive reasoning, and transformed their worlds through sheer intellect. Even if Satoru Gojo can defeat them on the battlefield, their minds effortlessly eclipse his own.
Serving as the true hero of Death Note, L Lawliet’s lack of supernatural perception doesn’t matter in light of his incandescent mind. The first to correctly blame a single person for the mysterious deaths of criminals around the world, he would have easily caught Light Yagami in the absence of paranormal circumstances.
Besides, mangaka Tsugumi Ohba once claimed that “the plot requires” L to be the smartest character in the series. L gradually uncovers an assassination protocol that should have been logically unsolvable, rapidly reducing the global pool of suspects until he’s directed to the source itself.
He later identifies the existence of a second Kira from minute differences in methodology and psychology, but never stops being suspicious of Light despite exonerating evidence. Although Kira engineers L’s demise, he cannot accomplish this through his admittedly vast intellect.
Instead, he emotionally exploits Rem’s devotion to Misa, forcing the Shinigami to kill L. One can only imagine the speed of L’s progress if he had access to the Six Eyes: Death Note would have ended in the first three episodes. Satoru Gojo is an inspired tactician; L’s whole existence revolves around extracting certainty from seemingly random events.
Bleach’s Urahara Prepared a Response for Every Potential Crisis
Sosuke Aizen, a villain so cunning that he tricked the majority of Soul Society for decades, begrudgingly lamented that he wasn’t as smart as Kisuke Urahara. Mayuri Kurotsuchi, another genius Shinigami known for era-defining discoveries, felt the same way. Urahara simply cannot be outmatched when it comes to pure brainpower, as evidenced by countless scenes in Bleach.
Urahara invented the Hogyoku, stolen by Aizen to become the central element of the Arrancar Saga, the Anti-Hollowification Vaccine that saved Ichigo’s life, as well as the Shin’eiyaku, Hollow Reishi-enriched pills designed to restore every lost Bankai. He even crafted a vaccine against the Deathdealing Schrift, briefly countering an otherwise unstoppable Sternritter ability.
Half the time, the heroic characters of Bleach survived thanks to some contrivance offered by Urahara, from timely interventions to pre-planned strategies capable of ending monstrous threats. He survived the TYBW because of his innate intuition, something that could have prevented Gojo’s defeat. More similar to Sukuna, Urahara doesn’t predict every development, but he prepares for every eventuality.
Dr. Vegapunk’s Discoveries Changed the Future of One Piece
Unquestionably based on Albert Einstein’s iconic tongue photograph, Dr. Vegapunk displays an intellect far greater than any real-world scientist. His precocious mind, bolstered further by the Brain-Brain Fruit, gained a near-limitless capacity for information storage.
Knowing nearly everything in the world is meaningless without recognizing the patterns, drawing inferences, and delivering some of the smartest ideas in One Piece. Vegapunk converted theoretical knowledge into functional technologies, including wildly different academic fields like genetics, medicine, robotics, climatology, energy production, and Devil Fruit research.
His research formed the basis for Pacifista weapons and their superior successors, the Seraphim, and his recent truth-bomb regarding the history of the Blue Planet exploded into the Final Saga. While he cannot compare in terms of raw intelligence, Satoru Gojo is perhaps wiser than Dr. Vegapunk, who accepted the brutality of the World Government, underestimated York’s ambition, and ultimately failed to prevent his creations from becoming instruments of mass destruction.
Lelouch Lamperouge Transformed Epic Failure Into Global Salvation
As a toxic anime hero, Lelouch Lamperouge’s intellect in Code Geass is imperfect. Emotional decisions derail various operations, his uncontrolled Geass triggers Euphemia’s massacre, and the first Black Rebellion collapses when he leaves the battlefield for Nunnally.
And yet, Lelouch learns from each of his undoings and somehow manages to stitch all the loose threads of his plan back into place. Gojo recognizes the need for jujutsu reformation; Lelouch takes that task to the global level.
Lelouch’s Geass can force obedience, but it cannot calculate military logistics, decipher enemy psychology, or construct a political system framed around the death of its creator. He repeatedly redefines the conditions of the battlefield, seizing victory through ruthlessly asymmetric warfare.
Lelouch reached his presumed final destination, realized the truth, and rebuilt his ambitions around a brilliantly subverted version of his original goal. When everything came to naught, Lelouch refused to flounder, panic, or even concede. He could not bear the burden of pointlessly destroying the world he swore to protect, and therefore devised the Zero Requiem to compensate.
However, it did so much more than that, healing a broken civilization while simultaneously giving the people hope for the future. In the end, Lelouch’s intelligence helped transform catastrophic failure into his greatest triumph.
