The former Duchess of York is denying reports that she is about to pen a tell-all memoir.
Sarah Ferguson has kept a low profile ever since her ex-husband Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest earlier this year. But now, she’s speaking out to address a new rumor about her life.
Sarah Ferguson denies tell-all memoir rumors
On Friday, the former Duchess of York gave a rare statement to Hello!, shutting down rumors that she was preparing to pen a tell-all memoir.
“There have been no discussions, and she is not writing a personal memoir; it’s not what she’s going to do,” a spokesperson for Ferguson said.
The denial comes after The Sun published a report on September 24 claiming that Ferguson was “days away” from signing a seven-figure deal for a potentially explosive memoir. According to the tabloid, Ferguson would share her thoughts on her ex-husband, as well as Prince Harry and Meghan Markle. She’d also address her controversial ties to sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein.
Aside from attempting to clear her name, Ferguson had one major motivation for writing a book: money. For years, Fergie has been notorious for her out-of-control spending and lavish lifestyle. But covering her expenses has become increasingly difficult as she and her ex have been shunned by the rest of the royal family.
“Sarah wants to set the record straight about everything and earn some money to resolve her financial issues,” a source told the tabloid. “There has been a secret bidding war and a deal is close to being secured.”
Former Duchess of York has been staying out of the public eye
Ferguson has been lying low for the past year, making her last public appearance in September 2025 at the Duchess of Kent’s funeral. In October 2025, she and Andrew officially lost their royal titles as a result of new revelations about their ties to Epstein.
Since February, the former duchess has been effectively homeless following her and Andrew’s eviction from Royal Lodge, the home they shared together despite their 1996 divorce. At one point, she was staying at her former boyfriend’s ski lodge in Switzerland. But more recently, there have been reports that she’s quietly returned to the U.K. so that she can be closer to her daughters and grandchildren.
According to The Sun, Ferguson is renting a £10,000-a-month, six-bedroom property, suggesting she hasn’t moderated her lifestyle despite recent setbacks.
“She’s had her eyes on a return for some time but it takes time to find the right new house,” a source said. “She hasn’t had to worry about accommodation for 20 years as she had Royal Lodge with Andrew. Now’s the right time to get back to her life.”
