An unexpected pregnancy for a fortysomething single mum drives this Irish comedy, which stars Bronagh Gallagher as single mum Pamela and Lola Petticrew as her teenage daughter Allegra. Being pregnant again at 44 was not part of the plan, but then Pamela never really had much of a plan and lives life as she takes it, including the messy hook-up with a younger man that led to her pregnancy. It’s Allegra who’s the brains of the family operation. Bright and conscientious, she looks after herself but is also a typical teenager, a bit socially awkward and engaged in regular exasperated huffs with her mum.
Gallagher is an established actress and singer you’ll know from The Commitments, as well as starring in Pramface and Brassic. Petticrew, who is very impressive here, has seen her profile soar in recent years after back-to-back performances in Irish TV dramas Say Nothing and Trespasses and a superb turn in 2026 cat-and-mouse thriller Furious.
