Fox’s breakout came in the Safdie brothers’ Uncut Gems, where she starred alongside Adam Sandler as Julia De Fiore, girlfriend to Sandler’s Howard Ratner. The studio had reportedly pushed for a bigger name, but Fox, then a total unknown, won the part after impressing in a screen test opposite Sandler. Critics took notice: The Guardian’s Killian Fox called Uncut Gems one of the best films of the year, singling out her performance as “radiating brassy, sexy attitude,” and Fox earned a Gotham Award nomination for Breakthrough Performer, though she lost to Taylor Russell for Waves.
She followed it with PVT Chat, and a supporting role in Steven Soderbergh’s No Sudden Move alongside Don Cheadle and Benicio del Toro. Fox has stayed steadily busy since. She appeared in Soderbergh’s Presence and Tony Kaye’s long-gestating dark comedy The Trainer, playing Bee opposite Vito Schnabel, Bella Thorne, and Gina Gershon, which finally premiered at the Rome Film Festival in 2024 after years in production. She also turned up in HBO’s Fantasmas, guest spots on Elsbeth and FX’s Adults, Netflix’s Night Always Comes, and the Jordan Peele-produced horror film Him, opposite Marlon Wayans, though that one received mostly negative reviews.
After signing with UTA in March 2026, her slate has only gotten busier, with the sapphic drama Perfect, which she also executive produced and which premiered at SXSW, the holiday comedy Clashing Through the Snow alongside Christopher Briney and Paris Hilton, and the road-trip comedy Northbound with Bruce Dern all rounding out a packed year.
So, Why Is Julia Fox So Famous?
Part of the appeal is the classic underdog story: watching someone claw their way out of real hardship and build a career from nothing is inherently compelling, and Fox has never shied away from discussing where she came from.

She’s also built a life well beyond acting, from the women’s knitwear line “Franziska Fox” to a 2017 gallery show titled “R.I.P. Julia Fox,” which featured silk canvases painted with the artist’s blood. She’s continued to be candid about her personal evolution, too, describing herself as pansexual in a 2025 interview after previously identifying as a lesbian (via TMZ).
