Srikanth Odela’s The Paradise was one of the most anticipated films of the year, with fans eager to see Nani in a completely different avatar. The action drama hit theatres on Thursday following paid premieres on Wednesday.
Although the film received largely negative reviews, it still managed to break several previous box-office records for Nani.
However, the star power did not help the film sustain its momentum on Friday. With the first weekend now becoming crucial, all eyes are on how The Paradise performs over the next few days.
The film registered an opening of ₹46.25 crore, the highest of Nani’s career. It collected ₹11.60 crore from paid premieres and ₹34.65 crore on its opening day. On Day 2, however, the film witnessed a sharp drop and collected only ₹14.90 crore.
On Day 3, The Paradise showed only a marginal recovery, collecting ₹15.25 crore net in India across 6,889 shows. This represents a growth of just 2.3% compared with the previous day’s ₹14.90 crore.
With this, the film’s total India net collection has reached ₹76.40 crore, while its India gross stands at ₹90.50 crore.
Overseas, the film collected ₹4 crore on Day 3, taking its total overseas gross to ₹29 crore. This pushed the worldwide gross collection to ₹119.50 crore.
Despite the sharp drop after the opening day, the makers appeared confident and held a success meet on Saturday.
Speaking at the event, Nani said, “These days, we are seeing films get a very positive response in the morning, which changes by evening. Strangely, for The Paradise, it was the opposite. It started a certain way with the premieres, but that changed. I haven’t seen anything like this for a recent film.”
The Paradise is directed by Srikanth Odela and produced by Sudhakar Cherukuri and Ishan Saksena under Sri Lakshmi Venkateshwara Cinemas and IVY Entertainment.
