The Star Wars directorial merry-go-round continues with the news that Spider-Man‘s Jon Watts is set to continue the Skywalker saga by bringing Star Wars: Episode X to the big screen.
With Shawn Levy in post-production on the next cinematic Star Wars outing, the Ryan Gosling-led Star Wars: Starfighter, Lucasfilm are looking to course correct following the critical and commercial failure of Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu, which according to The Hollywood Reporter means steering a path back to the Skywalker Saga.
Per their report Watts, who helmed Tom Holland’s first three Spider-Man movies, will direct the opening installment of the Simon Kinberg-penned trilogy. No stranger to the world of Star Wars, Watts co-created the really-rather-good small-screen outing Skeleton Crew in 2024.
Navigating the future of the Star Wars universe is a little like trying to find your way through the Hoth asteroid field, so what this return to the Skywalker Saga means for Daisy Ridley’s comeback as Rey Skywalker in the long-delayed New Jedi Order is anyone’s guess.
Star Wars: Episode X is currently in the very early stages of development, so much like proposed Star Wars movies from the likes of Taika Waititi, Kevin Feige, and Patty Jenkins, this could go the way of Alderaan.
