An everyman is pitched into battle with Russian gangsters in this violent comic drama

When Joe’s dad dies, that seems like more than enough for one man to handle in a week. As far as Joe was concerned his dad, Teddy Washington, was a simple man – ‘grandfather, father, tow truck driver’. Joe is a plumber, and he and his wife resolve to buckle down and deal with the costs of it all – financial, and emotional – but then, our everyman hero learns his father had taken $10million from the Russian mafia. And a Lamborghini. Uh-oh.
Such news certainly puts the workload of standard death admin into perspective, and then Joe is pitched into a violent world where the stakes are much higher than he’s used to. Life or death, actually.
Deon Cole gives a strong performance as the Average Joe of the title, along with Malcolm Barrett (Timeless) as his friend Leon, in a show about what an everyman can accomplish when placed in the right (or wrong) circumstances. It’s funny at times but can also be quite violent, so be wary of that going in. (Two series)
