American musician Raja Kumari, who has won over pan-Indian audiences with her work in “Jawan” and Telugu audiences with “They Call Him OG”, is making her debut as a music director with “Impure”. She has composed the music alongside Karan Pandav and has also lent her vocals and rap to “OMG”, the Sangeet song from the English-language film, which features an entirely desi cast and crew.
“IMPURE” explores the idea that purity cannot be judged by age-old rules and beliefs. The film examines how the pursuit of connection, dreams and passion can have devastating consequences. Directed by Nishanthi Evani, the film stars Yashna, Varahi and Sai Krishna. The story is written by Varahi Mallipamula, who has also produced the film with her mother, Sridevi Mallipamula.
Director Nandhini Reddy launched the trailer at the film’s pre-release event and wished the mother-daughter producer duo a successful debut. The trailer promises a bold take on contemporary social issues, presented through comedy.
Raja Kumari’s “OMG”, featuring Telugu lyrics by Kadali Sathyanarayana, takes on the familiar conversation around women being “too much” and turns the question back on men, urging them to step up rather than expect women to tone themselves down.
Varahi recently danced to the song at Times Square alongside American dancers. Raja Kumari also makes a special cameo in the film.
“IMPURE” is slated for theatrical release on October 2.
