Like many aging rock bands, nu-metal veterans Slipknot have a Ship of Theseus quality to them. A decent chunk of the classic lineup has departed, most recently longtime DJ Sid Wilson, who was kicked out about a month ago for reportedly being a jerk. Before that, a decade after taking over the kit from founding drummer Joey Jordison, Jay Weinberg got the ax in 2023, which left him “heartbroken and blindsided.” But Slipknot are more equipped for membership changes than some bands, owing to the grotesque masks each member wears. The quasi-anonymity also affords them a Daft Punk-like ability to not look old onstage, which surely amplifies their already considerable appeal to younger audiences. When you add all those teenagers rocking Slipknot tees to the pool of longtime fans, you apparently have enough people to fill up a bunch of stadiums.
After returning a few weeks ago with their first new song in three years, today Slipknot announced the (sic)est Stadium Tour, an outing that will take them to massive outdoor venues around the world next summer. They’re only doing one show across the Atlantic, kicking things off at London’s famed Wembley Stadium on July 3. They’ll then come back stateside to play 13 North American dates in July and August. Then, in September, the group will head down to South America for five more gigs.
Slipknot will have a large rotating cast of support acts on this tour. Unfortunately, one of them is Marilyn Manson, still warmly embraced by the hard-rock fraternity despite the extensive sexual abuse allegations against him. Also among the support acts: Hatebreed, Bring Me The Horizon, Acid Bath, Lorna Shore, Kublai Khan TX, Vended, Lamb Of God, Polyphia, Loathe, and Motionless In White.
An artist presale kicks off this Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. local time. A separate presale for Knotfest members begins Sept. 29 at noon local time. More presales are set to follow this week, leading up to general onsale this Friday, Oct. 2 at 10 a.m. local time. Another way to get early tickets in two markets: Slipknot have scheduled launch events this evening in London and Los Angeles. The London event is going down soon at Wembley, from 5-9 p.m. BST. The LA event is taking place at SoFi Stadium from 5-9 p.m. PT. Both events will afford those in attendance the first chance to snag tickets for next year’s show at the venue.
