In The Paradise, a particular scene involving Kayadu Lohar’s Subbu and her mother has been viewed as cringe. This story contains a few spoilers.
Subbu and her single parent-mother are drowned in debts. She wants to become a movie actress, but her mother doesn’t believe she has the talent. When a terrible insult is meted out by a creditor, Subbu, desperate to bail herself and her mother out, decides to become a soft-porn actress. She starts making homemade movies with the assistance of her mother, who now turns into a camerawoman for the blue films. After the success of her first B-grade movie, the mother appreciates her daughter, saying this: “You are a single-take actress, beta”. Ironic laughs follow in the cinema hall.
“What kind of a mother says such a thing to her daughter?” many have asked. Srikanth Odela, in a chit-chat with Natural Star Nani, justified the dialogue. “The mother had never trusted her daughter’s acting skills. So, when she closely watches her performance, she is amazed by her daughter’s talent and therefore utters those words in appreciation,” Odela shared. At this, Nani reflects, “Because the set-up is weak, the pay-off didn’t work for the audience.” The set-up probably got lost at the edit table.
