Dennis Haskins, the much-loved actor who portrayed Principal Richard Belding on Saved by the Bell for more than a decade, has passed away at the age of 75.
His passing was confirmed to the press by his agent Jay Schachter on Tuesday.
“It’s a tragic loss. Everyone loved Mr. Belding, and those of us who got to know Dennis loved him even more,” Schachter said.
“He was a great person, and he loved, I mean absolutely loved his fans. He always had time for them, no matter what. “He was my client and dear friend for over 20 years, and I will miss him terribly. “.
Information regarding the circumstances of Haskins’ death has not been disclosed.
The American performer, born in 1950, began his career on The Dukes of Hazzard series before achieving fame as Mr Belding on Saved by the Bell.
Haskins attended seven auditions for the sitcom before securing the memorable role.
He became recognised for the iconic catchphrase, “Hey, hey, hey, what is going on here?”, and established himself as a central character of the series, which aired from 1989 until 1993.
He subsequently reprised the role in the spin-off ‘Saved by the Bell: The New Class’ for a further seven years.
More than a decade later, Haskins returned as Mr Belding for a final appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
He also appeared in other programmes including New Girl, Mad Men and It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
