Since scoring a critical and commercial hit earlier this year with ‘One Wish Willow’ chiller Obsession, YouTuber-turned-filmmaker Curry Barker has suddenly found himself one of the most hyped, most talked about directors in town. But what’s next for horror’s newest enfant terrible? Well, not one to rest on his laurels, Barker actually shot his sophomore studio feature, Anything But Ghosts, before Obsession even hit cinemas. Now, Deadline has confirmed that movie has locked in a release date from Focus Features and Blumhouse Atomic Monster: May 7, 2027.
Starring Aaron Paul, Cooper Tomlinson, Bryce Dallas Howard, Violet McGraw, Chris Reinacher, and Barker himself, Anything But Ghosts — which finished shooting in April, just a month before everyone’s Obsession obsession took hold — sees Barker and Tomlinson play two fake paranormal investigators who find themselves coming face-to-face with actual ghosts on the job, unravelling their dodgy business practices as things massively spiral out of control. Further plot specifics are being kept under white sheets for now, but Barker has previously confirmed that Anything But Ghosts does take place in the Obsession universe, and that his latest — which boasts a 130-page script and shot in just 26 days — is the most challenging project he’s tackled to date. “The hardest day on Obsession was the easiest day on Anything But Ghosts,” said Barker in a recent Deadline interview.
While news of Anything But Ghosts‘ theatrical release plans is very welcome, it is worth noting that the supernatural horror isn’t the only movie looming on Curry Barker’s horizons. As we reported back in June, Barker’s third studio film has already found a home at Universal and Blumhouse Atomic Monster, with the filmmaker describing the as-yet-untitled project as a movie he’s “been excited to make for a while.” Clearly our one wish, for more Curry Barker movies, has been granted. And with no cat sandwiches or car-based head banging necessary. Winner!
