Rick Ross was arrested by Miami Beach police early this morning on domestic violence charges, CBS News reports. The rapper, born William Leonard Roberts II, faces one felony count of battery by strangulation and one misdemeanor count of battery, both classified as domestic violence. Ross, 50, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at 6:10 a.m. today.
Ross has retained attorney Bradley Horenstein. His arraignment is scheduled for Oct. 22. Bond was set at $5,000 for the felony charge and $1,000 for the misdemeanor. There are no public details yet regarding the alleged crimes, including the name of the victim.
The arrest comes days after Ross’ former girlfriend, the model Jazzma Kendrick, accused Ross of physically abusing her. In an Instagram story last weekend, Kendrick said she had been a “punching bag” for Ross and showed images of a bruised and busted lip. In a follow-up story on Monday, she wrote, “I want you to know I’m okay. This happened about a month ago, so I’ve had time to sit with it, process it, and start healing. Speaking up wasn’t easy, but your support reminded me I made the right choice.”
