Akshara Haasan Says Parents Never Pressured Her To Become An Actor

Actor Akshara Haasan recently opened up about parental pressure and revealed that her parents, Kamal Haasan and Sarika, never pressured her or her sister, Shruti Haasan, to pursue acting.

Speaking to scribes, Akshara said acting was not her first career choice. She initially worked as a choreographer and later as an assistant director, with the intention of becoming a filmmaker.

“My first job wasn’t as an actor, actually. It wasn’t even as an AD; it was as a choreographer. I started with music videos. I choreographed videos for friends who were dancers. My intention was to direct, so I worked as an AD to become a director. The reason I got into acting is because, how can you say no if you haven’t even tried it? I definitely want to get behind the camera,” she said.

Akshara said her parents gave both sisters the freedom to choose their own careers rather than expecting them to follow in their father’s footsteps.

“My parents have never put that pressure on both my sister and me to be like, ‘Accha, ab aap actor log ki beti ho, toh actor hi banna hai.’ They said, ‘Okay, you don’t have to. We’ll suggest, don’t become one if you don’t want to. Do what you want to do.’ So, I guess that really helped take the weight off our shoulders,” she added.
