Acclaimed sitarist, music producer and mental health advocate Rishab Rikhiram Sharma cemented his status as a global classical music trailblazer with a historic debut at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. Performing to a completely sold-out arena of 5,000+ attendees, Sharma became the first sitarist of his generation to grace this legendary stage, bridging centuries-old Indian classical tradition with modern contemporary production. Vedanta’s Anil Agarwal and Bollywood actress Neha Sharma were spotted in the audience.
Presented by Metropolis Music and Live Nation, the performance was a monumental milestone for the globally renowned Sitar for Mental Health initiative. The evening seamlessly moved the audience through a profound spectrum of emotion, stillness and sonic power. Alongside his celebrated ambient tracks like Chanakya, Tandavam, Shiv Kailash, Roslyn and The Burning Ghat, Sharma stunned the audience with a breathtaking cinematic sitar rendition of the Christopher Nolan’s Interstellar theme and a brand-new evocative Diwali single called Rama Rama. The immersive setlist was accompanied by guided breathwork and meditation.
Beyond the auditory experience, the performance was a visual masterclass in structural storytelling and ancestral heritage, reflected deeply through Sharma’s avant-garde performance attire. Sharma took the stage in a bespoke ivory brocade silhouette by couturier Amit Agarwal. Functioning as a somatic bridge between ancient Vedic mysticism and contemporary expression, Sharma donned a hyper-conceptual, full-arm henna sleeve designed in collaboration with multidisciplinary visual artist Santanu Hazarika. Paying homage to the departed during the sacred period of Shraddh, the design featured a towering temple shikhara mirroring the cosmic geometry of Mount Meru and crows as earthly embodiments of ancestors. The artwork served as a holy conduit connecting ancestral blessings directly to his fingers, which trailed into fire patterns symbolizing Mukti. Encompassed by a stylized cosmic ring representing the unbroken circle of life, the piece masterfully wove Hazarika’s signature graphic edge with the powerful iconography of Lord Shiva, seamlessly integrating the Trishul, the Naag, the third eye and the Damru.
Following this monumental triumph in London, Rishab Rikhiram Sharma’s Sitar for Mental Health world tour will continue its global run. Upcoming tour stops include major performances across North America, including Washington D.C., Toronto, Oakland, Los Angeles and a highly anticipated date at New York City’s iconic Carnegie Hall.
