The instrumental music trio Silk Fence brings together musicians with a long history of attention from this blog. Arian Shafiee, best known as a member of Guerilla Toss, plays electric guitar. Booker Stardrum, from SML and Play Time among other projects, handles drums and percussion. Justin Frye from PC Worship is on double bass and tapes. Together they’ve cooked up four lengthy excursions into the foggy, foreboding unknown.
Silk Fence is out today on Ryan Davis’ Sophomore Lounge label. It was recorded in 2024 and 2025 between Brooklyn and Bethel, New York, but it’s one of those records that doesn’t sound like it belongs in any known landscape — maybe the post-apocalyptic wild west? Whether you want to call it post-rock, kraut-jazz, or just experimental music, it’s a master class in atmospherics, repetition, and background as foreground. Give it a spin below.
