Moral dilemma drama starring Laura Fraser and Julie Hesmondhalgh
Year: 2021-2022
Certificate: 15
One night, a workplace rivalry at a brewery escalates into death after a series of bad decisions, all lubricated by booze. It leaves a group of friends, including Anna (Laura Fraser) and Nancy (Julie Hesmondhalgh), with a secret that burns inside each of them – along with the hangover – and leads to an uncomfortable pact of silence. Who has the least to lose by talking? And what part will a returning brewery patriarch (Eddie Marsan) play? Series one of this tense moral dilemma tale unfolds over six parts and really keeps you guessing – it also features a particularly fine performance from Hesmondhalgh.
A second series followed in 2022 with a different cast. Bafta-winner Rakie Ayola plays the devoted mother and social worker Christine Rees, who is still grieving a tragic loss when a stranger contacts her family, claiming an extraordinary connection. But what secrets lie in Christine’s past – and how far will she go to protect them? There is a connection to series one, beyond the theme – Ayola played DS Holland in the first run. (Two series)
