Sharon Leone’s health was a central story in Fire Country season 1, but as the show has continued on, her life has changed tremendously in both personal and professional ways. Before Bode’s return to Edgewater, Sharon seemed at peace with the prognosis of her chronic kidney disease, having accepted there was nothing that could be done bar a transplant, which wasn’t easy to get. However, learning about Bode leaving Edgewater being Vince’s fault and cherishing Bode’s return changed Sharon’s perspective, effectively making her wish for more time with her family instead of accepting the end of her life had come.
Sharon had a shot at a transplant in Fire Country season 1, episode 15 when Jake offered her his kidney after learning he was a match. However, the severe reaction to the anesthesia that almost added Jake to Fire Country’s list of deaths convinced Sharon she could not find another match, letting her decide not to try for a transplant again, instead living her last days crossing things off her bucket list. In an unexpected twist of events that saw Sharon collapse, Fire Country season 1’s ending finally revealed what secret closely linked to her health Sharon and Luke kept.
Does Bode’s Mom Die In Fire Country?
Though Sharon has consistently survived throughout each season of Fire Country, things haven’t been easy. As a character, Sharon has been through a ton of turmoil as she’s made her way through the drama of Edgewater. During Fire Country season 1, the mudslide destroying a group of luxury cabins impacted Edgewater as a whole and Freddy in particular, with Cookie and Janey being among those hit. However, Station 42 handling the call and Sharon being there as division chief also affected her and Vince directly, as Sharon unexpectedly collapsed during the call, forcing Vince to carry her to the hospital.
Sharon’s turn for the worse heavily hinted at her death possibly being close, especially with nobody coming forward after Edgewater’s residents mass-tested to see if they could be a match for Sharon. Luke’s presence at the hospital even hinted at he and Sharon hiding an unspeakable secret from Vince, but when they decided to share it with him, it solved all of Sharon and Vince’s problems. Indeed, Luke being a match for Sharon ensured she would have had a kidney, essentially stopping the race against time she was on since her diagnosis.
Fire Country season 1’s ending guaranteed Sharon would survive thanks to Luke’s kidney, and, despite not showing the transplant, the news made it easier for Vince and Sharon to go from worrying about Sharon’s health to Bode’s return to prison.
What’s Happened To Sharon Through Fire Country Season 4
While Sharon’s kidney disease was a major plot point of Fire Country season 1, things have changed significantly throughout the course of the rest of the series thus far. With Sharon finally getting a transplant before Fire Country season 2’s beginning, the storyline is mostly resolved, but Sharon and the larger Leone family are still in personal disarray. After Sharon finishes recovering away from Edgewater, her relationship with her husband Vince is strained, but she’s able to work through her marital issues and finds a renewed relationship with her son, Bode. Her stepsister, Mickey, also becomes part of her story.
The family issues continue throughout Fire Country season 3, especially as Vince’s father Walter becomes a part of the couple’s story when he’s diagnosed with dementia. Sharon navigates complicated issues between herself and the rest of the family, trying to keep things together as Vince continuously struggles with his father’s decline. The cliffhanger at the end of season 3 made it seem possible that Sharon would perish, but ultimately, Vince succumbed to his injuries during a building collapse. Going into the fourth season as a widow, Sharon has to deal with grief as revelations about her late-husband come to life.
