Popular chain confirms plan to open on improving Nottingham city shopping street

The location hasn’t been announced but it’s obvious when you look a bit closer

It started off as one coffee shop in Nottingham before growing into a country-wide chain. 200 Degrees currently has three shops in the city centre but has revealed that it is to open a fourth.

The latest location is in Lister Gate, not far from its other shops in Carrington Street and the original spot in Flying Horse Walk, which is also home to a barista school.

A third coffee shop, like the others serving the beans from its roastery in Meadow Lane, is based in Milton Street.

A 200 Degrees post on Instagram comes with the caption “When you hear a rumour another 200 Degrees shop will be announced soon”, with a video of Charity Shop Sue saying the line from The Refurb on YouTube: “Guess what? I’m dying to tell you this, I’ve got an exclusive for you,” in front of the 200 Degrees emblem of a roaring fire.

While the location hasn’t been officially revealed, it’s a bit of a giveaway if you walk down Lister Gate.

A signs on the doors and windows has the message: “Oh go on then, let’s open another one. We love sharing our coffee with the country but nothing beats coming home. See you soon.”

The property has been standing empty since 2019. Before that it was a Cancer Research charity shop for several years.

The site is not far another property in Lister Gate that is set to become Costa Coffee. The Nottingham Post was told it should open by the end of the year after delays this summer.

200 Degrees, which also has a shop in West Bridgford, has 26 branches across England and Wales.

It was founded in 2012 by Rob Darby and Tom Vincent. The independent business was bought out by Caffe Nero in 2024.

A number of new shops have opened in the last couple of years in what had been a struggling shopping street, in part caused by the closure of the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre.

Brands like Sports Direct and Flannels have set up in Lister Gate. While the completion of the Green Heart – a small park developed as part of the city council’s regeneration of the area – and government agency Homes England stepping in to finish the redevelopment of the old shopping centre, has also boosted the once mostly deserted stretch of the city.
