Florence Pugh, Zoe Kazan, Paul Dano, Vanity Fair, and More Toast to ‘East of Eden’

About halfway through the evening, attention turned back to Pugh as Guiducci and Bajaria lauded the Oscar-nominee. “You’re an actor who’s an artist first and a celebrity second, which is also rare,” said Guiducci in his remarks. Bajara highlighted the dream team that was Pugh and Kazan. “If these two walk in the door, you just say, ’Yes,’” she said.

After the toasts, Kazan recalled giving her first interview to Vanity Fair earlier this summer about East of Eden. “I realized walking away from it, I thought I knew how to talk about this and I am not ready to talk about this,” she says. “I spent most of the summer journaling, and trying to emotionally prepare for this moment. I feel very relaxed now. I’m really loving being able to be present,” she quips. “Thank you to my therapist. Thank you, Pauline.”

There’s someone else she also had to thank: her husband The Fablemans star Paul Dano wasn’t directly involved in the limited series’ production, but contributed in his own way. “He provided child care,” quipped Kazan. “He fed me. He gave me dirty looks when I woke up at 5 a.m.”
