Carol Vorderman makes rare red carpet appearance with son at BAFTA Cymru Awards

The broadcaster was awarded one of BAFTA Cymru’s most esteemed awards

Carol Vorderman made a rare public appearance alongside her son Cameron King as she celebrated a major career honour at the 2026 BAFTA Cymru Awards. The broadcaster, 65, made a red carpet appearance with her 34-year-old son at the International Convention Centre Wales on Sunday, as she received the Sian Phillips Award for Outstanding Contribution to Television.

Cameron was by his mother’s side as she marked more than four decades in broadcasting, proudly supporting her as she collected the award.

The pair were beaming on the red carpet, Carol glamourously dressed in a floor-length black dress, while Cameron looked equally smart in his blue suit and red tie.

Carol, who was raised in Prestatyn from the age of three weeks, has spent 44 years on television, becoming a household name through Countdown before going on to work across a range of programmes.

Cameron, whom Carol shares with her former husband Patrick King, has previously spoken about his experiences with learning difficulties and his education.

He has severe special educational needs, including high-spectrum dyslexia, ADD and ADHD. Carol has previously said that schools described her son as “unteachable”.

Despite the difficulties he faced at school, Cameron went on to achieve a first-class undergraduate degree in animation before completing a master’s degree in the subject at the University of Dundee.

He made his television debut alongside his mother on This Morning in 2021, when he spoke about his education and learning difficulties.

Now, five years on, Cameron was back in front of the cameras to support his mother at one of the biggest nights of her career. For the latest TV and showbiz gossip sign up to our newsletter

Speaking to WalesOnline on the red carpet, Carol said Esther Rantzen had made her believe she could succeed in television.

Following her win, Carol took to social media to thank the viewers who have supported her throughout her career.

She wrote: “Thank YOU, all of you. I’ve seen a lot over my 44 years on the telly box, and in spite of fashions coming and going somehow I’m still there.

“But the thing, above all things, which has made my life as wonderful as it is, has been that every single day of it, at least one person has come up for a chat to say hello with a story about them…. or their Nan watching Countdown ….or their children learning maths with me through lockdown and are now a year ahead at school … or about politics .. or fighting for women’s rights .. or a thousand stories.

“And every single time I think how privileged I am, and have been, to have that in my life.“So this one is for all of those tens and tens and tens of thousands of people who’ve said hello over the years.”
