Hunter x Hunter fans have received another troubling update from creator Yoshihiro Togashi. On October 5, 2026, the manga author addressed his workload on X, explaining that physical and mental health problems have led him to change how he handles professional requests. The announcement comes as the series waits for its next chapter, adding another layer of uncertainty for readers following the Succession Contest.
Togashi did not announce a cancellation or provide a return date for Hunter x Hunter. Instead, he explained that after completing the assignments he has already accepted, he plans to reject future projects with fixed deadlines and prioritize his own manuscripts, via his @Un4v5s8bgsVk9Xp X post. That decision affects how fans should view the latest hiatus, because production is now being reorganized around his health.
Togashi Is Stepping Away From Deadline-Driven Work
The most important part of Togashi’s October 5 update is his decision to stop taking future work that comes with deadlines. He plans to finish the commitments already on his plate, then devote greater priority to his own manuscript work. The distinction is important, because this is a workload change, not an announcement that Shueisha has scheduled the next Hunter x Hunter chapter.
Togashi also made clear that the return of manuscript production will be announced separately. He did not attach a date, month, or projected chapter to that announcement, leaving the timeline open-ended. While that may frustrate readers, it also avoids creating another deadline that could conflict with the health issues he says have been affecting him and making predictable production windows difficult to maintain.
That announcement follows a substantial recent run for the manga. VIZ lists Chapter 411 as arriving on June 28, 2026, followed by Chapters 412 through 420 across the summer. Chapter 420 released on September 6 in VIZ’s English schedule, completing the latest 10-chapter stretch and leaving Chapter 421 without an announced publication date, according to the current official chapter listing.
Hunter x Hunter’s Latest Hiatus Has an Unclear Future
Hunter x Hunter’s current pause follows a familiar pattern, although this update adds a more concerning personal dimension. After Chapter 410 arrived in December 2024, the manga remained away from publication before returning with Chapter 411 in June 2026. The comeback then lasted exactly ten chapters, concluding with Chapter 420 before another publication break.
Togashi’s latest wording is especially big because he refers specifically to accumulated physical and mental health difficulties. Rather than offering fans a production target, he is removing future deadline-driven outside work so that his own manuscripts receive priority. For a creator whose publication schedule has repeatedly been disrupted, establishing a more sustainable workload may prove more important than setting another fast return.
Readers therefore should not interpret the October 5 post as confirmation that Hunter x Hunter is ending. It confirms a change in Togashi’s working approach while the manga remains on hiatus, but it does not establish when Chapter 421 will arrive. The only firm promise is that Togashi will announce it once he resumes manuscript production, keeping the next phase open.
