Emily Blunt, Benicio Del Toro and Josh Brolin set for Sicario 3

Get ready for another trip to the border as Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin are set to return for Sicario 3 from director Padraic McKinley (The Weight).

The trio starred in the first Sicario film released in 2015 which was directed by Dune‘s Denis Villeneuve from a script by Yellowstone and Lioness creator Taylor Sheridan. Blunt played FBI agent Kate Macer who joins a joint FBI and CIA task force targeting a Mexican drug cartel with CIA agent Matt Graver and assassin Alejandro Gillick. The operation tests Macer’s devotion to the law and just how far she is willing to bend it. The sequel Sicario 2: Day of the Soldado was released in 2018, but without Blunt and Villeneuve’s involvement.

Sicario 3 will be directed by McKinley from a script by Peaky Blinders‘ Steven Knight with the pair currently writing a new draft after sharing it with the three lead stars and getting notes from them. The story is being kept under wraps at the moment. It will be produced by Lionsgate, Black Label Media and Thunder Road with an eye for a early-2027 production start.

Blunt most recently starred in Steven Spielberg’s Disclosure Day as well as The Devil Wears Prada 2 while Brolin starred in Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars. Del Toro’s last film was One Battle After Another for which he was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, though the Oscar went to his co-star Sean Penn.
