The Batman Part II Halts Shooting For Director Matt Reeves

With the season finale of Lanterns airing today, James Gunn already hard at work penning his next movie post-Man Of Tomorrow, and Tom Rhys Harries starrer Clayface mere days away, things have been pretty busy of late at DC Studios. One of the company’s most hotly anticipated — and long awaited — projects is, however, about to take an unforeseen sabbatical. Per Deadline‘s reporting, production on The Batman Part II — which had finally started filming this summer after several delays — has been paused due to director Matt Reeves having to temporarily step away for undisclosed personal reasons.

In a statement shared by Deadline, Warner Bros. affirmed their support for Reeves and commitment to bringing its sequel to The Batman to our screens. “Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” said the studio’s statement. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.” As above stated, the nature and cause of Reeves’ absence is unknown, as is whether the ongoing situation may have any impact on the movie’s planned February 18, 2028 cinema release. Deadline‘s sources simply state that it’s too early to say one way or another what effect the current stoppage could have on DC’s theatrical slate.

With the likes of Scarlett Johansson, Sebastian Stan, Brian Tyree Henry, Jayme Lawson, Charles Dance, Gil Perez-Abraham, and Sebastian Koch all set to appear in Reeves’ long-gestating sequel in as-yet-undisclosed roles alongside a returning Robert Pattinson, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell, The Batman Part II may be shrouded by secrecy and may have faced its fair share of difficulties on its path to our screens, but after that first film we maintain high hopes that the juice will have proven well worth the squeeze. Until then, while we don’t know what Matt Reeves may be going through right now, our thoughts are with him and we sincerely hope he is able to get back to doing what he does best in the near future. As a famous fictitious DA once said, “The night is darkest just before the dawn.” Here’s to that dawn coming soon.
