The Emmy Awards are leaving broadcast television.

After a pretty bad show last month on NBC, the Emmys have signed a deal with Amazon.

The irony is that Amazon Tv shows get very few Emmys.

“Television has never been more global, and the Emmys should be a celebration that the world can share,” says Cris Abrego, the chair of the Television Academy. “Now Prime Video audiences in more than 200 countries will be able to experience the Emmys live with no subscription required.”

Little by little, the prestige awards shows are leaving network TV. The Oscars are going to YouTube. That leaves the Grammys, going to ABC. But the Tony Awards and the Kennedy Center Honors may be up for grabs unless CBS shows some interest in them.

Previously, the Emmy Awards rotated from ABC to CBS to NBC to Fox. But now it will start a six year run on Amazon beginning next September.

Showbiz411 is now in its 13th year of providing breaking and exclusive entertainment news. This is an independent site, unlike the many Hollywood trades that are owned by one company. To continue providing news that takes a fresh look at what’s going on in movies, music, theater, etc, advertising is our basis. Reader donations would be greatly appreciated, too. They are just another facet of keeping fact based journalism alive.
