PYO pumpkins, scarefests, haunted houses, ghost hunts and £5 Practical Magic cinema tickets
It is officially time to start thinking about Halloween and half term – or at least I think so!
As the nights get darker and the mornings are colder, there’s something comforting about the glow of Jack-o’-Lanterns, the rustle of leaves in the woods and the smell of pumpkin candles.
With this in mind, I’ve put together a big guide to Halloween and half term events to look out for this month. It includes lots of family-friendly activities and some scarier happenings for adults and teens feeling brave, plus some reviews too.

One child-friendly event I like the look of is a ghost hunt at a ‘haunted house’ in Staffordshire. Shugborough Hall is a grand old mansion with lots of history, making it full of stories of the past.
And the reward for taking on the challenge? Cream tea for grown-ups and Halloween-themed biscuits for kids!
That’s my kinda Halloween vibe!
Lots of farms have opened their PYO Pumpkin Patches and many are offering extra activities such as mazes, scavenger hunts, carving tents, games and photo opportunities.
And I’ve found a cinema offering tickets to see Practical Magic 2 for just £5 each!
If spooky goings-on are not your thing, there are plenty of other things to do over October half term.
I’ve been exploring a tiny village in Shropshire that has a cider-only pub, a farm shop with a tea garden cafe and National Trust ‘house with a surprise’.
Dudmaston in Quatt is home to artworks by some truly incredible artists and a great way of introducing kids to art without having to take them to the fancy museums of Paris or New York.
There’s also a new swimming pool that’s opened in Droitwich Spa. The leisure centre has undergone a major refurbishment with a new Studio pool, upgraded main pool, new cafe and gym.
Might be worth a look over the school holidays, especially if the weather is bad.
Ahead of Halloween, and for those not quite ready to say goodbye to summer (I know I’m not), you might want to head over to Webbs in Wychbold as their Flora Fields are open for two final weekends – and entry is free.
This is a big saving as it had previously cost £6 for adults and £3 for kids. There are still some blooms available to pick.
Another freebie is happening at Merry Hill this weekend (October 9 – 11).
The Edit is a fashion and beauty event featuring samples from M&S, Lush and Boots.
Finally, a gentle reminder to all mums. I’ve been chatting to Kelly Taylor, a lovely mum-of-two who found a lump when she was breastfeeding, aged 27.
Thankfully, she acted quickly and has beaten cancer and is now urging all mums to check their breasts – no matter how busy you are. How right she is.
Have a great rest of the week
