Nigel Havers co-stars in a drama about an audacious Swedish financial fraud in the 1990s

You wouldn’t expect to find Nigel Havers in a Swedish drama about a financial fraud from the 1990s. But appear he does, and with some style, in this four-part account of the Trustor scandal, a tangled affair from 1997 in which financiers conspired to scoop up the investment firm Trustor – using the company’s own money to do it – before Joachim Posener, the mastermind behind it all, disappeared.
The true story isn’t entirely clear but this drama does a good job with the haziness of it all, following Joachim as he is released from prison and barrels headlong into his scheme. Havers arrives about 18 minutes into part one as Brit Lord Moyne – aka Jonathan Guinness – who is portrayed as the unwitting front for the plan and a ‘hopeless eccentric’ who loves a drink. The lion-haired Havers plays Moyne to the absolute comic hilt, and the scenes he’s in have the added benefit of unfolding in English. (Four episodes)
