A 28-year-old man from Punjab was shot dead while delivering pizza in New York City, leaving his family and village back home in deep shock.
The victim has been identified as Gurdeep Singh, a native of Jabowal village near Begowal in Punjab.
According to reports, Gurdeep had moved to the United States around 13 years ago after taking a loan, hoping to earn a better livelihood and support his family in India.
His father, Pyara Lal, said Gurdeep had struggled for several years after reaching the US and worked hard to improve the family’s financial condition.
Gurdeep was reportedly delivering pizza when an unidentified person opened fire at him.
Police are investigating the incident, and initial reports suggest that robbery could have been a possible motive. However, the exact circumstances behind the shooting are yet to be confirmed by local authorities.
News of Gurdeep’s death has caused grief in his native village, with family members struggling to come to terms with the tragedy.
Gurdeep is survived by his father and brother.
The family has appealed to the Indian government for help in bringing his body back to India at the earliest.
They have also urged US authorities to quickly identify and arrest the person responsible for the shooting and take strict legal action.
