15 Best Tokyo Revengers Characters, Ranked

Tokyo Revengers burst onto the anime scene during the Summer 2021 season, introducing the world to a struggling adult named Takemichi Hanagaki, whose life feels like it’s been going nowhere fast. Things take a dramatic turn for the worse when he learns that the only girlfriend he ever had, along with her younger brother, were both killed by the Tokyo Manji Gang. Inadvertently traveling 12 years back in time, Takemichi finds himself in middle school again, reliving the past and changing it as he goes to avoid the tragic outcome that consumes his life.

This time, he joins the Tokyo Manji Gang, a colorful group of gangsters who take him in as a friend. Part of him hopes he can get through to them before the darkness truly starts, while the rest of him wants desperately to see his first and only love again. Introducing a vibrant cast of characters along the way, the Tokyo Revengers anime is launching into its Fourth Season with the upcoming Fall 2026 anime season, and will almost certainly give fans even more characters to root for.

Tetta Kisaki Is A Well-Constructed Antagonist

Tetta Kisaki, who is known as the mastermind of the series, was the anime’s main protagonist for the first three seasons. He was not an imposing threat from a physical perspective, but excellent at manipulating people. He didn’t even really try to hide that he was manipulating the gangs around him, because he knew how to play people’s interests against themselves.

In the end, all of his plots really were to just impress Hinata, whose death kicked off the whole series. Audiences did not really go for Kisaki as much as they liked the more fun characters who enjoyed themselves and were more “out there” with their personalities. Kisaki is dramatic and scheming, but a well-drawn character, nonetheless.

Ran Haitani & His Brother Are A Sworn Duo

Ran Haitani was, with his younger brother, Rindo, were almost like an island unto themselves. They wore distinctive outfits that made them stand out from the other gang members, establishing their true loyalty to each other first.

Haitaini’s distinctive hair and his striking fashion sense make him stand out to the other gang members. He has a certain flair that others don’t possess, making him popular with fans, as well as the other gang members.

Souya “Angry, Blue Ogre” Kawata Is Actually A Gentle Soul

Paired with his twin brother, “Smiley,” “Angry” was known for his distinctive scowl. Despite being known as “Angry,” he was actually really nice, and a bit of a pacifist. His brother joked that he was far too nice to actually beat anyone up.

That is, of course, unless someone threatens his family. At this point, the “Blue Ogre” side of his personality would come out, and his strength would increase. He was such a powerful brute in anger mode that he could take on multiple fighters at once.

Hajime “Koko” Kokonoi Is A Monetary Strategist

Koko was the finance expert for the Black Dragons. As the one who was responsible for finding the money to pay for all of their uniforms and supplies, Koko carries himself with an aloof air that makes him likable.

However, behind that aloofness was a man who faced a deep tragedy when he was younger. When the girl he loved needed a surgery that her family could not pay for, he became obsessed with finding the money. He realized pretty quickly that the easiest way to acquire money was in the criminal underworld.

Seishuu “Inupi” Inui & Koko Are An Unlikely, Unbreakable Duo

Inupi is a major player in the Black Dragons, where he was a quiet, but extremely loyal, soldier. He wasn’t someone who would keep quiet when he had something that he felt needed to be said, but in general, he was more stoic than anything.

He was also firmly loyal, the type of person who would do anything to protect the people closest to him. One of those people he is closest to is his best friend, Kokonoi, who we eventually learn saved his life when he was caught in a fire, and that is the reason for the burn scar on Inupi’s forehead.

Nahoya Kawata Is The Smiley Twin

Fourth Division Caption of the Tokyo Manji Gang, Nahoya Kawata, more commonly referred to as “Smiley,” took a while to impress anime fans as much as he did manga readers. The yin to his twin brother Souya’s yang, Nahoya will stop at nothing to protect him.

Nahoya lives for the thrill of a good fight and never backs down from a challenge. Though he’s loyal to the gang, his first allegiance lies with his twin.

Hinata Tachibana Is At the Heart Of Tokyo Revengers

Hinata Tachibana’s death is the inciting incident for the entire series. If she hadn’t been killed, Takemichi wouldn’t have had to time travel, and fans wouldn’t have gotten such a fantastic story.

Hinata is one of the anime’s most wholesome characters. As Takemichi’s high-school girlfriend, she’s optimistic and kind but never one to back down from a fight. Takemichi praises her for her uncanny ability to know just what to say during terrible circumstances. Though she’s a teenage girl, her willpower exceeds some of the story’s most formidable gangsters.

Shuji Hanma Lives for the Thrill of the Fight

Shuji has been in several gangs throughout Tokyo Revengers. Before joining the Kanto Manji Gang, he used to be one of Tetta Kisaki’s closest allies. Acting as Tetta’s confidant, he would orchestrate several attacks on the Tokyo Manji Gang, ultimately seeking to overthrow their current leadership.

Despite his negative qualities, Shuji is another character who lives for an adrenaline rush. Nothing truly satiates his thirst for thrills quite like fighting. Shuji took to violence in the streets to cope with his unbearable boredom and to feel some semblance of excitement in his life.

Kazutora Hanemiya’s Backstory Is Harrowing

Kazutora quickly became a beloved character after his debut in the anime. His spunky, outgoing demeanor hides much of his inner turmoil — and that’s precisely what makes him so interesting. Kazutora was a founding member of the Tokyo Manji Gang, but he betrayed them after mistakenly murdering Mikey’s brother.

After being sent to prison, he was released and joined Valhalla. He led the resistance against Tokyo Manji Gang, ultimately resulting in the Bloody Halloween incident that resulted in his second arrest. Since then, Kazutora has seemingly atoned for his crimes and become a significantly more stable individual.

Takashi Mitsuya Is a Founding Member of the Tokyo Manji Gang

Takashi is one of the Tokyo Manji Gang’s founding members. Fans appreciate Takashi for his level-headed personality and adorable relationship with his younger siblings, Luna and Mana. Currently, Takashi has a career in fashion design.

With a keen eye for aesthetics and an unwavering sense of positivity, it’s no question why Takashi is one of Tokyo Revenger‘s most endearing characters. Even though he comes from a tough background, Takashi is still a gentle soul who wakes up and faces each new day with a smile.
