The OA
The second season took its dimension-hopping story to another level when Prairie entered a reality where The OA appeared to be a television production and the characters had the actors’ real names. Netflix canceled the show before it could explore the bizarre new world.
1899
After an entire season aboard a steamship in 1899, Maura woke up to discover that the experience had apparently been a simulation. She was actually aboard a spaceship in the year 2099, which would have changed the show completely if Netflix had ordered another season.
Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles
John Connor traveled into the future, only to encounter people who had no idea who he was. Even more intriguingly, he met a human version of Cameron, setting up a dramatically different timeline that the show never got to explore.
The Society
The teenagers spent the season trying to survive in a version of their hometown where every adult had mysteriously vanished. The finale suddenly showed the original town, where their families were alive and a memorial listed the missing teenagers’ names.
Dark Matter
Season three ended with a dimensional rift opening and mysterious alien ships beginning to emerge from it. The apparent start of an invasion was supposed to push the story into much bigger territory, but Syfy canceled the show instead.
Terra Nova
The colonists discovered the prow of an old sailing ship in the Badlands, despite living millions of years before such a vessel should have existed. The discovery suggested there was much more to the show’s time-travel mystery, but Fox canceled it after one season.
