Moving three-part documentary that reunites the heroes of 9/11 with the people they saved
Year: 2026
The horror of the 9/11 attacks cast a long shadow in the world, but the stories of heroism on the day and after have continued to cast light into that dark. This moving documentary feels like it has a mission to perpetuate that light by bringing together the heroes with the recipients of that heroism 25 years after the attacks that killed 2,977 people.
Using a mixture of archive footage and new interviews, the series introduces us to them all in turn. One of the most moving accounts comes from Debbie St John, who had just turned 30, become engaged and was on her way into a busy morning at her job and feeling on top of the world, believing that she was on the verge of the ‘best year of my life’. When the attacks came, Debbie was struck by a falling blade from one of the planes.
It could have easily hit Stefan Horlacher, a German-born ex-member of the French Foreign Legion who was now working as a bond trader – and was next to Debbie on the street when she was struck. Horlacher made it his business to protect her from the stampede, the debris from above and from the horrifying injury she had already sustained. Have the tissues handy for the moment they meet again at the end of part one. (Three episodes)
