Middle-age crisis averted by the power of dogs
Year: 2026
Certificate: 12
This slow-burn but satisfying series from Down Under follows cranky middle-ager Roland (co-creator Leon Ford) as he slowly emerges from a funk with the help of eternal optimist Samantha (Celia Pacquola) and a warm-hearted, very tight-knit pack of fellow dog-owners. The premise makes it a shoo-in for dog-lovers, but while the dogs are a big part of it, the humans are the reason to watch.
Roland’s wife has recently accepted a job overseas, leaving Melbourne for New Mexico, and it’s unclear whether a reunion is on the cards. Adjusting to this new phase of his life, Roland and his dog Bessie are embraced by the local dog park community, whether he likes it or not. His initial reticence isn’t overplayed, but sets out the show’s general mood. It has the beats of a comedy but also a big emotional core that wins you over, worming its way into your heart like a persistently adorable pet. (Six episodes)
