Lionel Richie ‘released from hospital’ after falling ill during concert

Music icon Lionel Richie was rushed to hospital after becoming ill during a show in St. Louis, Missouri at the weekend but it’s now understood that he has returned to his LA home

Lionel Richie has been released from hospital – days after enduring a scary health incident during one of his concerts.

The music icon, 77, sparked concern when he was rushed to hospital after becoming ill during a show in St. Louis, Missouri, over the weekend.

He checked himself into a local hospital following his performance on Saturday night and still remained there on Monday while tests were being done.

Although he has yet to speak publicly about his condition, The Mirror understands that the Hello singer is back at home in Los Angeles and is doing well after leaving the intensive care unit.

Witnesses at the concert at the weekend claim the star had appeared to be struggling during the latter stages of the show. At one point, it’s claimed he asked his team to bring him a chair while performing his final song, All Night Long.

Insiders told TMZ that the star needed to sit down for his last tune. The publication suggests doctors are looking into possible slight dehydration.

Fans were quick to raise their fears online following the news. One user on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “OMG NO NOT Lionel!!! I hope he recovers well don’t want another tragedy !”

The comment is in regard to the recent passing of Dolly Parton, among others. The Country music icon died last week aged 80.

Lionel paid tribute to the star on Instagram at the time. Sharing a picture of the pair performing, he wrote: “Dolly, what a fun ride… “I Will Always Love You.” We will always love you! Your light and your music will live on forever.”

Lionel’s latest health worry comes after the singer was also rushed to hospital in June after falling ill onstage. At the time, Lionel had been performing in Minnesota and told the crowd he felt “dizzy” and “strange”.

He proceeded to cut the show short before paramedics met him backstage and took him to a hospital by ambulance.

Lionel later postponed his concert tour. He then released a statement which revealed the singer was left ‘heartbroken’ by the news.

When he later returned to the stage, he addressed his health concerns. He told the crowd: “I had you worried there for a minute, huh.”

He also seemingly revealed he had ignored medical advice from his friends when it came to going back on stage: “You have no idea what I have been through in the last 24 hours, listening to my friends tell me their advice on what I should be doing.”

It came after a source revealed those close to the star had been concerned by his health in recent months. A source told the Daily Mail: “Family, friends, and even his bandmates are definitely concerned about Lionel’s health, but nobody is about to tell him to slow down. They all want him better and to do what he loves to do.

“Right now, Lionel is actually more upset that fans didn’t get the full show they paid for than he is about himself and his health. That’s where his head is. He hates disappointing people and feels terrible that the concert couldn’t continue as planned.”
