Anushka Shetty enjoyed superstardom for many years and delivered several blockbusters during her prime. At the height of her career, she was regarded as one of the few female stars who could command the same level of popularity as many male superstars.
However, health and fitness-related issues have led her to gradually reduce her acting assignments. Her recent female-centric films, including “Ghati,” have also failed to make a strong impact at the box office.
Perhaps this has prompted Anushka to become more selective about her work. She has not announced a new film in nearly a year.
“Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer,” her first Malayalam film and also the 50th movie of her career, has been in production for nearly three years. The film is yet to reach theaters, and there is still no clarity on when it will be released. At present, this remains her only announced project.
After completing 50 films over a career spanning more than two decades, the question now is: what does Anushka Shetty’s next chapter look like?
There have been reports suggesting that she may eventually step away from acting. However, these remain speculative. There are also reports that she plans to be highly selective and work only with certain filmmakers and production houses, with UV Creations among the names mentioned. According to these reports, she is in no hurry to sign films and would consider projects only if the script and character are right for her.
For now, Anushka appears to be taking things at her own pace. She is currently based in Bengaluru with her parents and has largely stayed away from the spotlight.
Whether “Kathanar” marks the beginning of the next phase of her career or becomes her final film remains to be seen.
