Rajamouli reveals the emotional core of Mahesh Babu starrer ‘Varanasi’ – Telugu Cinema

Rajamouli

SS Rajamouli’s “Varanasi” stars Mahesh Babu as Rudhra, a man based in Varanasi. The film also takes him back in time to the Ramayana era, where he appears as Lord Rama in a crucial episode.

Apart from Mahesh Babu, the film features Priyanka Chopra Jonas as the female lead and Prithviraj Sukumaran as the antagonist. Prakash Raj, who previously played Mahesh Babu’s father in “Dookudu” and “Seethamma Vakitlo Sirimalle Chettu,” is once again cast as his father.

According to Rajamouli, the father-son relationship is the emotional heart of “Varanasi.” Despite the film’s scale, time-travel concept, adventure and visual spectacle, the director says the story ultimately revolves around the bond between a father and his son. This emotional thread runs throughout the narrative.

This revelation has also added fuel to the speculation surrounding the film’s story. There have been murmurs that Rajamouli has taken inspiration from an old Hollywood blockbuster and reimagined its core concept by incorporating Indian mythology, time travel and cutting-edge visual effects.

The content released so far, along with Rajamouli’s comments about the film’s central theme and narrative, has only strengthened these comparisons. While the exact similarities will become clear only after the film’s release, there is considerable curiosity over how Rajamouli has adapted the familiar Hollywood template into an Indian epic adventure.
