Elegant, comfy and packed with clever storage, my new bed has been a total bedroom upgrade

There comes a point when everyone has to admit it’s probably time to upgrade their bed. Went I took the plunge to replace a broken bedframe and saggy mattress, I wasn’t expecting my new bed to make such a difference.
I opted for the Simba Fife Divan Bed, a simple, classic design that manages to look stylish without being overly fussy. But while the chocolate brown finish was what initially caught my eye, it was the practical side of the bed that has been a revelation.
My version is a double bed size that comes with four spacious drawers, two on either side. An absolute gamechanger for adding extra space without the need for bulky furniture, they glide in and out easily and give me a generous amount of space to stash away bedding, clothes and more.
Elegant, simple and nicely rounded, the rich brown fabric is a refreshing change from the usual sea of grey, black and beige beds. Surprisingly easy to live with, the colour is opulent without being overpowering and has that cosy, warm feel that makes the whole room feel more inviting.
The design itself is very much understated chic. There aren’t loads of unnecessary details or fussy features competing for attention, which I really like. It has a timeless quality that means I don’t think I’ll wake up in a few years and wonder what on earth I was thinking.

But the biggest test of any bed is what it’s actually like to sleep in and this is where the Simba Fife really impressed me. The bed feels sturdy and well made rather than like something that has been put together simply to look good in a showroom. There’s no wobbling or creaking when getting in and out, and the whole thing has a reassuringly solid feel.
I chose the double Fife with four drawers, which currently costs £899, while the bed base and headboard combination starts from £669. There are also versions with two drawers, no drawers, an ottoman or just the base, so there are plenty of options depending on how much storage is needed.
The delivery and set-up was another big plus. The team arrived with the bed and mattress and had everything assembled in surprisingly quick time, meaning I didn’t have to spend my afternoon wrestling with an Allen key.
As part of Simba’s extensive range of beds other options that caught my eye included the Simba Camden Bed with its thickly padded, floor standing headboard and the cosy Richmond Bed with a curved headboard serving up serious ‘chateau chic.’
Of course, a good bed frame is only half the equation. I paired mine with the Simba Hybrid Essential Mattress, which has a medium-firm feel and combines foam with up to 1,000 Aerocoil microsprings.
I’m not a fan of mattresses that feel either rock hard or so soft that you sink into them, and this sits somewhere comfortably in the middle. It feels supportive without being unforgiving, while the graphite-infused foam is designed to help with temperature regulation.
The springs are also designed to reduce motion transfer — something I particularly appreciate when sharing a bed with my husband, who seems to have a habit of performing a full-body workout in his sleep. The mattress starts from £549 for a single, with different sizes available.
Those seeking an alternative to the Simba mattress may wish to explore the Emma Original Pro Mattress, which features Thermosync temperature control technology, with prices starting from £469 for a single.
Also worth considering is the RemFit 5000 Lux Elite Hybrid Mattress, another well-regarded option that promises ‘superior contouring and motion isolation. ‘ The double-sized version is currently available for £799.
Simba enthusiasts have been vocal in sharing their experiences online. One satisfied customer who invested in a new Simba bed awarded it a five-star review, writing: “Lovely bed. I paid extra for the bed to be assembled but it was absolutely worth every penny. They came on time and swiftly assembled my bed which is exactly as it was on the photos and is extremely comfortable. I cannot recommend Simba Sleep enough.”
Another reviewer was more succinct in their praise, declaring: “This is the most comfortable bed I have slept in in my 50 years.”
The mattress has garnered strong recommendations, with one five-star review stating: “Brought the Simba hybrid mattress great service arrived next day. Really pleased comfortable and good night sleep.”
Another purchaser commented: “I had been experiencing back ache in the mornings and realising our previous mattress was 10 years old I hoped a new one would solve it. So far so good…good nights sleep and no back pain in the morning.”
However, amongst the more than 65,000 Trustpilot reviews, not all feedback was glowing. One customer remarked: “The mattress is just ok. I’m still getting back pain but it’s not as bad as my last mattress I suppose.”
