An “incredible” 90s psychological thriller has started trending on Netflix, with one fan declaring it has “the best ending ever”. But despite its high praise, it may be have escaped some film lovers’ attention.
In fact, the film is so highly regarded that it’s got many people wishing they could “wipe” it from their minds just to experience it all over again with “fresh eyes”. Netflix offers a huge selection of films across a wide array of genres, from action and comedy to horror, thrillers, dramas and much more. The streaming giant is constantly adding new releases while also housing classics that experience renewed popularity if they break into the coveted top 10.
With such an abundance of choice, deciding what to watch can be a challenge, which is why many film lovers turn to social media for suggestions. Content creators focusing on film and TV have grown in popularity in recent years, building dedicated fan bases thanks to their enthusiasm and expertise.
One such creator is Luke Ecclestone, who shares content under the name Eccy Reviews, and he’s recently championed a 1999 psychological horror as essential viewing.
The TV and film enthusiast, who has racked up 480,000 TikTok followers, recently highlighted the film, describing it as “one of the best and most shocking films you will ever see in your entire life”.
1999 psychological horror film now trending on Netflix
Luke has sung the praises of M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological horror The Sixth Sense, which left cinema-goers completely floored when it hit screens on August 6, roughly 27 years ago.
In text overlaid on his video, he wrote: “Stop wasting your Netflix and watch this film.”
Speaking straight to camera, he began: “If you’re looking for a gripping film to go and watch on Netflix tonight, stop and look no further because I have the perfect film for you. It is one of the best and most shocking films you will ever see in your entire life.”
The Sixth Sense centres on troubled child Cole Sear, portrayed by a then 10-year-old Haley Joel Osment, who possesses the eerie ability to see and communicate with the dead.
Unsurprisingly, this gift terrifies the boy – and Osment’s portrayal brilliantly conveyed Cole’s inner anguish, nervousness, terror and ultimately, his eventual courage and determination to help spirits find closure.
In an attempt to help him conquer his fears, psychologist Dr Malcolm Crowe – who’s also wrestling with his own demons and psychological scars following a brutal confrontation with a former patient – is brought in to assist.
Bruce Willis takes on the understated, softly-spoken and compassionate Dr Crowe which, back then, was a striking departure from his legendary action hero personas like the quick-witted John McClane in the Die Hard films.
Luke Ecclestone continued: “Now, this is already trending on Netflix, and if you’re someone who’s seen it, you’ll be like, ‘everyone has seen this’ but I genuinely know people who haven’t – and this film is genuinely incredible.”
He added: “This film is absolutely horrifying in parts. It is very emotional, but the story is so gripping you’ll be on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
“Once this film ends and you see the credits, you generally will never, ever forget about this film ever again.
“Make sure if you’ve seen it or go and check it out because of this video, let me know your thoughts in the comments – but please do not spoil it for people who haven’t seen it.”
