A gelato store in Leicester has announced its closure after four and a half years and customers say it’s a “big loss” to the city.
Gelato Village announced on Sunday, September 6, that it would be its final day operating the Clarendon Park branch on Queens Road.
Staff said while they had “poured our hearts” into the space, they had to face the reality of running a seasonal business.
They added that extended periods of low trade would make keeping doors open “unviable”.
The location opened in 2022 and was the second branch to serve fresh gelato, coffee, hot chocolate and waffles.
In a statement shared by Gelato Village, staff said: “After four and a half years, we are officially closing the doors to this location.
“We want to start by saying a heartfelt thank you to every single regular, neighbour, and guest who came through our doors, shared a treat with us, and supported us along the way. Your support has meant the world to our team.
“While we poured our hearts into this space, the reality of running a seasonal business means that long stretches of low trade made staying open unviable.
“Deciding to step back is never easy, but closing this chapter clears the physical and mental space needed to focus on new ideas and future developments ahead.”
Gelato Village’s flagship store, which has been in St Martins, Leicester, since 2014, will remain open.
Customers have reacted to the news of the closure with one saying they will “really miss” the branch.
A customer said: “Very sad to see this wonderful, friendly place closing. I hope the one in town continues to thrive.”
A second person added: “It’s a big loss to Queens Road and I will really miss it. A special thank you to Linda for making it such a pleasant and welcoming place.”
Another visitor said: “I will really miss this. I am in town from time to time, but Queens Road venue had a particularly friendly, relaxed vibe as well as the convenience of it being on my doorstep.”
A fourth added: “It’s so sad to see you’ve had to close your Queen Road.”
