Magic postboxes, mini Christmas trees and meeting Father Christmas himself. You’ll be able to get festive at these Welsh Garden Villages
The fairy lights are getting switched on, the cosy cushions plumped and the man himself is back in his red outfit ready for the 2026 festive season and one popular Welsh garden centre has released the launch dates for their magical grotto.
Pugh’s, which has Garden Villages in Wenvoe and Radyr – both just outside Cardiff – will host their gloriously festive and colourful Santa’s grotto starting this November, and parents and familes can book them now.
The Wenvoe Grotto will open on November 1 and is themed around the ‘North Pole Letter Sender’ where the kids will step inside a cosy woodland tipi to send their letters to the workshop as they get to meet Father Christmas.
At Radyr, the winter woodland lodge will see children plant a magic bean that will later transform into a mini Christmas tree. This grotto will open on November 13.
At both venues there will be photo opportunities and a gift to take home. Find out all about the Pugh’s Santa Grottos this Christmas, and how to book tickets, here.
In previous years, Pugh’s Santa experience was a 30-minute group session where multiple families went in to see the big man, now in 2026, families or groups will have a magical 10-minute private experience of their own.
The grottos aren’t the only Christmassy thing at Pugh’s to make you feel the festive fun. Each year the stores are kitted out in several festive themes, with the planning and designing starting as early as August. In 2025 the themes were Apres Ski, Country Retreat and The Playroom – this fun and toy focused display features dancing trees, Teddy bears and Santa’s workshop and ties in with 2025’s Noah’s Ark Charity’s Power of Play appeal, raising money for the children’s hospital at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
This year’s themes have not been announced as yet, but we can’t wait to find out what they are. You’ll also be able to look forward to a Christmas menu coming back to the very popular restaurants and coffee shops.
