Amanda Holden blasts ‘horrible’ restaurant worker after she’s ‘banned’ from restaurant

Heart Radio host Amanda Holden revealed she can no longer visit a restaurant she regularly frequents with her family in Spain, following the majorly awkward incident

Amanda Holden has revealed she’s been “banned” from a restaurant after an awkward encounter. The 55-year-old told listeners of Heart Radio that while holidaying in Spain, she came up against a “rude” member of staff who stopped her from leaving a tip for her waiter.

“It’s somewhere we keep going as a family,” she told her co-host Jamie Theakston. “I was in a restaurant, I said, ‘Can I pay the bill?’ He [the waiter] said you, ‘You have to go to the till to pay the bill’.”

Upon heading over to settle up, Amanda recounted how she asked the woman behind the counter whether she could leave a gratuity for the waiter, only to receive a “rude” response.

“She just went, ‘No’ [in a blunt manner],” Amanda claimed. “She was very curt and she just went ‘No’. And I said, ‘Our waiter has been absolutely lovely’ and she said, ‘Cash’.”

The presenter explained that she was unable to pay the tip in cash and enquired whether it could be added to the bill, only to be met with another firm “No”.

She continued: “She was quite mean, so I signed for the bill and then I went back down to my family and I went to the table and I said to the waiter and my family, ‘I’m so sorry, I really wanted to give you a tip but that b****y horrible woman at the till wouldn’t let me give you a gratuity’.”

Recounting the toe-curling moment that followed, she added: “He said, ‘That woman is my wife’. And the next time we went to book that restaurant, I’m not allowed, I was banned!”. Amanda shared the story as part of a “truth and a lie” segment, during which she also claimed to have purchased a pair of decorative Crocs at her husband’s suggestion.

She confirmed that her embarrassing moment in Spain was indeed true, joking that she “wouldn’t be seen dead” in Crocs.

“I was only trying to tip the waiter,” she added. “I thought it was the right thing to do.”

This isn’t the first holiday mishap Amanda has found herself in. During a recent trip to Greece, she revealed that she became trapped behind a unit while “fully naked”.

Speaking on Heart, she explained that she was midway through applying moisturiser when the bottle slipped behind a cabinet. Upon attempting to retrieve it, she struggled considerably and ultimately had to climb over the furniture.

“My husband, who was on the bed with his phone didn’t offer to help in any way, I was heaving and heaving this chest of drawers and I had to get behind the chest of drawers, literally by straddling it and climbing over it, I was fully naked,” she explained.

“I was going, ‘Thanks Chris for helping me!’ and then I couldn’t get out so I had to back out after getting my moisturiser.

“It was some long sideboard thing, I had to back out and when I finally got out, I had to reverse, so my bum came out first, you can imagine, totally naked,” she added.

The Britain’s Got Talent judge subsequently shared footage of the incident on her Instagram page, prompting a wave of fans to respond to the humorous moment.
