The much-loved Liverpool restaurant celebrates its 50th year this month
One of Liverpool’s oldest restaurants is set to bring back its 1976 prices for one-day only. Casa Italia, located on Stanley Street in Liverpool city centre, is celebrating 50 years of serving Italian food to generations of Scousers in September. Arran Campolucci-Bordi, 36, from Birkdale is the third generation of his family at the helm after his grandad, Mario Campolucci-Bordi, took it on from its original owner, Giuliano Sherini, in 1985.
While the family has remained at its heart for more than 40 years, it has also been a part of generations of Scousers’ lives, welcoming thousands through its doors for casual meals or celebrations. As a thank you to customers, Casa Italia is set to take its prices back to 1976 for one-day only.
Arran said: “We get to celebrate with everybody 50 years, which you don’t see very often. We are going to do something really exciting for customers. I’m not going to tell anyone the date, but what we are going to do is put the prices of 1976 on our menu for one day.
“We’re not going to tell anybody what that day is. If you’ve booked already, you just come in and you’re going to see a £1.80 pizza because that’s what they were back then.
“We’re going to do that for our 50th. No one’s going to know what day that is until it lands. So that’s quite exciting. I’m really excited for that actually.
“I want the people who were going to come anyway to be really nice and surprised.”
Arran told the ECHO that “all of the dishes have pretty much been on from the very start,” so customers can expect to see items at their original prices.
He added: “It was funny because like you wouldn’t find a Pollo al Forno in Italy. Like that’s not a dish that you would have in Italy.
“So Giuliano, the guy who created it, his whole idea was, ‘So how do we make Italian food for English people?’.
“He would look and see what English people were eating, like cottage pie and a lot of oven baked things.
“He he sort of said, ‘Well, we’re going to try and focus a lot on the oven baked dishes that you might not see in Italy.’ And so, you know, he was right.”
