The full details of the lifeline for Bulkington Christmas lights 2026 has been revealed.
It was back in 2024 when Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council announced that while it would provide the lights, it could not afford to provide the funds to stage the actual switch-on in the village.
It led to the community itself rallying, raising thousands of pounds to ensure that it could take place that year and, while the same effort was put in last year, the event sadly had to be cancelled due to bad weather.

Ward councillor Lubs Cvetkovic appealed to the new Reform-led council to reverse the previous Labour council’s decision and look at providing some funding this year with Tory leader, Cllr Kris Wilson adding his support and saying they should end the ‘class warfare’ around the event.
Town Hall leader, Cllr George Finch confirmed they would support the event and reinstate the council funding and now details of this have emerged.
Full funding details
In a council report, it explains that £3,500 will be given to Bulkington Volunteers for the Bulkington Christmas event.
“The annual Christmas light switch on in Bulkington is managed and funded by Bulkington Volunteers a small charity with the help of external partner organisations to deliver the annual Bulkington Christmas Light event,” the report explains.
“An annual grant payment from the council has been agreed to support fefined aspects related to the event, including road closures, barriersand waste disposal.
“The council will enter into a grant agreement with the group in relation to the use of the grant payment to ensure that it is allocated for specific elements of the event only.”
It is understood that the funding will pay towards the costs of road closures and barriers needed for the event.
The final approval of the funding will be made by leisure cabinet member Cllr Bobby Greenwood during a single member meeting on Tuesday, September 15.
