Martha Stewart is sharing just how deep her bond with the late JFK Jr. ran!
The lifestyle legend revealed her very significant final conversation with the late journalist, in which she gave him helpful advice that he failed to adopt and which may have played a huge role in his shocking death.
Martha Stewart’s pal, JFK Jr., died on July 16, 1999, when the light aircraft he was piloting veered and crashed into the Atlantic Ocean off a vineyard in Massachusetts, killing the three people on board.

The television personality stated that they had a conversation on the Monday before the plane crash on Friday in 1999. She recalled catching up with him for a conversation about his political lifestyle magazine “George,” and from there, they got talking about weekend plans.
“He said, ‘Oh, we’re going to a wedding in Martha’s Vineyard. And I’m taking my wife and her sister,’” Stewart recalled, adding that she promptly advised him to get a co-pilot for that trip. The media influencer noted in the premiere episode of “The Real Housewives of New York City” Season 16 that JFK Jr. refused the advice and insisted he did not need a wingman.
As shared by Page Six, at the time of the flight, JFK Jr. was a relatively inexperienced pilot, and he became disoriented midair while making his way through thick fog. The businessman and his wife, Carolyn Bessette, had planned to drop off her sister, Lauren, at Martha’s Vineyard and head on to Hyannis Port to attend his cousin’s wedding ceremony.
The Late Journalist’s Wife Reportedly Sought Professional Cooking Advice From The Kitchen Guru
Prior to their death, JFK Jr., Stewart, and his wife all operated within the same social circles in Hollywood, and much of that interaction included Carolyn looking to better her kitchen skills with Stewart’s help.
As shared by PEOPLE, Elizabeth Beller, in a biography about Carolyn’s life, “Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy,” revealed that she would usually order takeout should they get bored of her one recipe.
Elizabeth continued that Carolyn only knew how to make roast chicken, and any unavailability of that meant a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken would be the food on the menu. The Los Angeles Times in 1996 reported that Carolyn contacted the famous homemaker for her expert culinary and decorating advice.
In addition to her curiosity about being a better cook, Elizabeth also highlighted Carolyn’s warmth and kindness, and that she was full of life. However, people usually wrongly described her as emotionless and icy.

Inside JFK Jr.’s Love Story With Carolyn Bessette
The duo locked eyes for the first time ever during her time working in publicity at the VIP section in Calvin Klein when he came in for a fitting and subsequently asked her to accompany him to a gala. Although nothing much happened at the gala, as JFK Jr. attended with another woman, they attended another event days later and were spotted talking for over an hour.
In 1994, a breakup between JFK Jr. and his ex, Daryl Hannah, led to an intense pursuit from the former towards Carolyn, who was reportedly adamant about indulging his gestures at first. Vogue noted that the couple went through another on-and-off phase with a triangle involving Daryl before they finally got serious.
By Independence Day 1995, JFK Jr. got down on one knee and asked Carolyn to marry him in Martha’s Vineyard on a fishing boat. Carolyn reportedly took her time with giving a response, a gesture that reportedly intrigued JFK Jr. the most in his bid to marry her.
The press began to scrutinize the relationship in 1996 when the couple was spotted arguing during a walk at the city park, prompting an eight-page spread in the New York Daily News. According to JFK Jr’s friend Steven M. Gillon in his 2019 biography “America’s Reluctant Prince,” Carolyn was fed up with JFK Jr.’s habit of letting people disrespect him.
