Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Officially Returns In 2027

The Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise has long left Jaden Yuki and the Duel Academy behind, but the series will be returning to the Elemental Hero era in 2027, with a new Yu-Gi-Oh! GX release that will give people a chance to return to one of the most beloved times in the series.

When Yugi Muto defeated Atem at the end of the Yu-Gi-Oh! manga, many fans had assumed that would be the end of the franchise. However, the Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game had become a global phenomenon at this point, so the anime continued with a whole new storyline, following the students of the prestigious Duel Academy, where they are broken up into houses based on the Egyptian God Cards, and learn how to become pro players.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3 Remake Game Jaden

Easily the most surprising announcement of the September 9 Nintendo Direct was that Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3 is being remade for the Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and Steam, under the name Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX, launching February 16, 2027. Then again, CBR was given confirmation that more Yu-Gi-Oh! video games are on the way in a recent interview with KONAMI, though a remake of a Yu-Gi-Oh! GX title was certainly not what was expected.

The original Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3 launched on the PSP back in 2008, and is set in the Dual Academy from the anime. The player gets to team up with one of the show’s characters, like Jaden or Chazz, as they aim to become the best Duelist in the school, creating a deck from a choice of over 3000 cards. Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX marks the game’s debut outside of Japan, and will add new cards that support the decks of its era.

The different versions of Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX come with their own bonuses. The Steam version has a digital art book, while the physical Nintendo Switch game has three Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG cards: Yubel, Wicked Canon, and, Hope for the Future, the latter two of which are making their debut in tabletop form. The player will also be given a code to unlock the cards in Master Duel.

The Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG had seemingly moved to digital-only platforms, with games like Master Duel and Duel Links being KONAMI’s main focus. It’s great to see the older Yu-Gi-Oh! video games returning, as for many fans, they were their main way of experiencing the TCG before playing it in real life. Hopefully, new Yu-Gi-Oh! video games are also on the way, bringing even more of the classic heroes back for fresh adventures.
