If Charlie Cox‘s Matt Murdock/Daredevil, Jon Bernthal’s Punisher and Krysten Ritter’s Jessica Jones can be transplanted into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, then so can Mike Colter’s Luke Cage.
And that’s exactly what happened in the season two finale of Daredevil: Born Again.
Colter, who played the indestructible hero in two seasons of Netflix’s Luke Cage series—as well as the single season of The Defenders crossover event—was delighted to be invited back into the Marvel fold.

“It was in the back of my mind somewhere,” the actor recently expressed to Collider. “It wasn’t in the forefront. I wasn’t actively campaigning or worrying about trying to revisit it because actors get into the business wanting to play different characters.”
He continued: “I really enjoyed playing the character. I probably enjoy it as much for the fans than anything. I think the die-hard Luke Cage fans and Marvel fans enjoy these characters, so it’s bringing a bit of joy to their lives. That’s where I am on it right now. I love doing it for the people.”
Based on set photos from Daredevil: Born Again‘s third season, it appears as though a full-on Defenders reunion is in the works, with Colter and Finn Jones (Danny Rand/Iron Fist) spotted filming in New York City.
“People want to see Oasis get back together,” Colter explained. “ABBA stopped, but if ABBA came back and did a reunion, we’re going to go see it. There’s always someone who wants to see that greatness. I don’t care how long it takes, we will wait. And if they come back, we will be there. That’s how I feel about The Defenders and Luke Cage. If you bring it back, somebody will be interested in seeing it.”
Appearing on Shawn Colter’s On That Note podcast earlier this year, Colter said he’s discussed Cage’s “unfinished business” with Netflix series creator and showrunner Cheo Hodari Coker. The show was canceled in 2018 after two seasons.
“I’ve had conversations, and I’ll leave it at that,” teased the actor. “I loved playing Luke Cage, but I also love acting. I love doing different things. I was just like, ‘I’ll do something else.’ I love the fans and I love that world. But now I think to myself, ‘I have some unfinished business there.’ I would say we’re in a better position to see this come into fruition faster than we think.”
