Coronation Street airs cruel Jodie scenes as her torment of Shona intensifies

David Platt (Jack P Shepherd) was stunned to find his Coronation Street home engulfed in smoke in today’s episode.

The property has only just been rebuilt after a catastrophic blaze, but surely lightning wouldn’t strike twice? Well, this is probably the most dangerous street in the country, so it could be likely.

Fortunately for the Platts, it was a false alarm. Shona Platt (Julia Goulding) had fallen asleep on the sofa, and a burnt cake in the oven had caused smoke to fill the room.

David was deeply concerned for his wife, worried that she was struggling to care for their infant daughter Harper. But does he have the full story?

Earlier in the instalment, Shona was reminded by sister Jodie Ramsey (Olivia Frances Brown) that she had promised to make a cake for stepdaughter Lily Platt’s (Grace Ashcroft-Gardner) school bake sale.

When she asked for her sister’s help, Jodie quickly made her excuses, claiming she had a dentist’s appointment.

After a particularly stressful few hours, Shona was horrified when the smoke alarm suddenly sounded and she discovered that she had burned the cake. She whipped the alarm off the wall and took the batteries out, fearful that it would wake a sleeping Harper.

From the garden, Jodie watched on, taking obvious pleasure in seeing her sibling struggle. As viewers know, she’s been determined to woo David since her arrival in Weatherfield.

Later, while Shona slept on the sofa, Jodie quietly let herself back inside No. 8. She put the burnt cake back into the oven before slipping away unnoticed.

Shona insisted to David and dad Doug (Steve Evets) that she had definitely switched the oven off, but the incident left her questioning her own memory and sanity. Jodie, meanwhile, was delighted by the effect the situation was having on her sister.

Later, as David opened up to Jodie, he admitted that he was deeply worried about Shona and the state of her mind. Jodie comforted him with a hug and reassured him that she would always be there for him.

Will he eventually fall for her advances?
