The latest development suggests that there is huge competition between Vishwambhara, produced by UV Creations and Kaaka produced by KVN Productions, for the 2027 Sankranthi season.
However, only one of the two films is expected to eventually arrive during the festival window, depending on the completion status and, most importantly, Chiranjeevi’s choice.
As of now, according to inside reports the OTT deal of “Kaaka” is not yet closed and a lot of shooting is also pending. Even the second half has to be locked by Chiranjeevi. Amidst this, the release of Kaaka for Sankranthi is uncertain, as of now.
Then comes Fauzi, starring Prabhas. The film is also reportedly planning a Sankranthi release, skipping the December 2026 schedule.
However, if Vishwambhara occupies the Sankranthi slot , Fauzi may back out of the race on friendly grounds between UV Creations and Prabhas, the main lead of Fauzi.
The other alternative date being considered for Fauzi is January 26, Republic Day. Since the film reportedly deals with patriotism and is set against the British-era backdrop, the Republic Day weekend could be an apt choice for its release.
This gives the makers another strong option if Sankranthi becomes too crowded. In case Jan 26th is also missed, it may see light in February.
Ultimately, it remains to be seen how the release plans take shape. If some wonder happens and Kaaka eventually locks for Sankranthi instead of Vishwambhara, then the competition for Kaaka from Fauzi may be on cards.
The next few months should bring more clarity on which films will actually target the festival season.
